Traveling to South Africa is an exciting experience for adventure-seeking travellers looking for a blend of comfort and exploration. With its stable and well-developed infrastructure, the country offers a safe and convenient travel environment for visitors.
Overall, South Africa is a welcoming and well-developed destination with a thriving tourism industry. By ensuring you meet all necessary travel and visa requirements before your trip, you can enjoy a secure and hassle-free visit to our beautiful and diverse country.
Factors to take into consideration…
Passport & Visa Requirements
Visitors to South Africa must have a valid passport with at least six months validity. Visa requirements vary by country.
All visitors to South Africa are required to have a valid passport with at least six months validity beyond the planned date of departure. It is important for travellers to check the specific visa requirements based on their country of origin.
Visitors from many countries, including the United States, Canada, and most European countries, do not require a visa for stays of up to 90 days for tourism or business purposes. However, it is always best to check the latest visa requirements with the South African embassy or consulate in your country before traveling.
If you do require a visa, it is recommended to apply well in advance of your planned travel dates to allow for processing time. Visa requirements and application processes can vary depending on your nationality, so it is important to carefully review the specific requirements for your country.
In addition to a valid passport and visa (if required), travellers should also ensure they have proof of onward travel, such as a return ticket, and proof of sufficient funds to cover their stay in South Africa.
Children/minors under the age of 18
All under 18 travellers must present a full birth certificate, parents’ details, parents’ passports, and a valid visa if necessary.
Effective 1 June 2015, the South African Department of Home Affairs introduced new documentation requirements for travellers under the age of 18 entering or leaving South Africa. All travellers under 18 must present a full birth certificate that includes the child’s full name (as printed on the passport) and both parents’ details, along with the passports of both parents and a valid visa if required
If only one parent is traveling with the child, they must provide the child’s unabridged birth certificate and an affidavit from the other parent, authorizing travel with the child. Alternatively, a court order granting full parental responsibility to the traveling parent, along with certified copies of both parents’ passports and a 24-hour contact number, is required.
Please note that travellers under 18 without the necessary documentation will be prohibited from traveling to or from South Africa.
