What to Pack

What to pack (suggestions):

CLOTHING & PERSONAL ITEMS

  • 3 or 4 Pairs of hunting pants and shirts, with belt (Dark colours or cammo).
  • Light jacket and sweater.
  • Warm jacket and sweater (June-August).
  • Comfortable hunting boots (Light, flat sole shoes for less noise).
  • 3 or 4 pairs of socks.
  • Pair of gloves.
  • Camp shoes or sneakers.
  • Safari hat and/or cap.
  • Moisturizing cream & suntan lotion.
  • 1 or 2 pairs of casual clothes for camp and travel.
  • Underwear.
  • Toiletries.
  • Prescription & personal medication (anti-malaria if required).
  • Basic medical kit (aspirins, plasters, Imodium, antiseptic cream and Antihistamine cream etc).
  • Good quality sunglasses.
  • If you wear contact lenses, we recommend that you bring along a pair of glasses in case you get irritation from the dust.
  • Camera and/or video camera, chargers and lots of memory cards & batteries. (If possible check that the settings on your digital camera is on the highest possible resolution.)
  • Extra USB Flash drive or SD card to copy pictures onto.
  • Binoculars (ESSENTIAL).
  • Flashlight with spare batteries.
  • Power converter kit for South Africa (220 V AC).
  • Laundry done almost daily, don’t over pack.

Please note that bright and light coloured clothing are NOT advised whilst on safari. Dark colours, cammo or khaki is best.

FIREARMS & AMMUNITION

  • If you are 21 years or older, you may bring along a MAXIMUM of four (4) rifles, only one rifle per caliber and no more than two hundred (200) rounds per rifle.
  • Strong protective rifle/bow case to travel with, having good locks on these cases are very important.
  • Ammunition must be separated from weapons and SHOULD be packed as a separate piece of checked baggage in a secure lockable container or ammunition case.
  • We strongly recommend that ammunition be packed in lockable cases which can be handed in as loose items at the firearm counters to avoid possible delays during checked baggage screening.
  • DO NOT pack ammunition loosely in checked baggage.

FINANCIAL & PERSONAL DOCUMENTS

  • Passport (Valid for six months AFTER safari as well as a minimum of two free pages). South Africa requires no visa.
  • Airline ticket/Flight Itinerary.
  • Copy of CITES permit if required.
  • Contact numbers of outfitter.
  • US 4457 form – when traveling with a rifle.
  • Hotel reservations number if necessary.
  • Travelers checks, cash and/or credit card.
  • Firearm import export form (SAPS520) - when traveling with a rifle.
  • Stanley Pieterse Safaris invitation form - when traveling with a rifle (we will provide you with this).

IMPORTANT! Persons under 18 need to have a valid birth certificate when travelling to South Africa.
